How Glass Jewelry Is Made

Glass jewelry begins with heat.

Before it becomes a bead, a pendant, a ring or a small detail to be worn close to the body, glass is a raw material — solid, still and full of possibility. At Kamane Studio, every piece begins in this state and slowly changes through fire, movement and careful handwork.

The process starts with glass rods. These rods are heated in a flame until the material becomes soft enough to shape. Glass does not move immediately. It takes patience. It needs the right temperature, the right distance from the flame and constant attention.

As the glass softens, it begins to move. It can be shaped, layered, stretched or turned into small forms. This is where each piece starts to develop its own character. Color may become deeper. Transparent glass may catch the light differently. Tiny bubbles, soft irregularities and slight shifts in shape may appear naturally during the making process.

These details are not flaws. They are part of working with glass by hand.

Unlike mass-produced jewelry, handmade glass jewelry is never exactly the same twice. Even when the same colors and techniques are used, every piece carries small differences. The movement of the hand, the temperature of the flame and the nature of the material all leave their trace.

After shaping, the glass needs time to cool properly. This stage is just as important as the making itself. Once cooled, each piece is inspected, cleaned and prepared to become finished jewelry. Some pieces are completed with silver details, while others become beads, pendants, earrings or rings.
